Remote Factory Acceptance Tests for the Plant Engineering Industry

To help a client active in the plant engineering industry carry out factory acceptance tests (FAT) and machine demonstrations remotely due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, we created a photorealistic digital twin of their test center and imported 3D models of their machines, allowing for virtual demonstrations and remote FAT.

What was the challenge?

For our client active in the plant engineering industry, the sales of intricate technical installations present a great challenge. Prospective customers often seek a tangible and experiential understanding of the technical assets in operation before committing to a purchase decision. However, the conventional methods of shipping installations to customers or having them travel to the site can be resource-intensive, consuming valuable time and finances. Furthermore, our client needed to carry out machine demonstrations and factory acceptance tests (FAT) remotely because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

How did we solve it?

To overcome the challenges of demonstrating complex technical installations in the plant engineering industry and carrying out FAT remotely, we implemented our photorealistic digital twin platform. This solution enables our client’s customers to experience technical assets in remarkable detail without the need for physical travel. Moreover, the digital twin supports the integration of functional and explanatory videos (for example, of pouring or grinding processes), measurement data, sensor values, data sheets, and dashboards in real time. This combination creates a fully immersive experience for our client’s customers, providing a comprehensive understanding of the machines.

How did our client benefit?

Our client can now allow their customers to engage with and understand complex machines remotely, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming travel. The high-resolution 3D models and immersive features of the digital twin enhance the customer’s ability to explore and interact with the technical assets in stunning detail – even taking them apart and looking inside is possible. By superimposing functional and explanatory content, the digital twin provides a comprehensive overview, expediting the sales and FAT process, saving both our client and their customers valuable time and resources.
